Welcome to Anita and Magnus in Peppinge, just outside Ystad, in the middle of the beautiful Österlen.
A Slice of Swedish Hospitality offers visitors a unique chance to discover the cozy, everyday but still exotic side of Sweden by having dinner with a local family. You can’t get much closer to us Swedes than that!
Lunch, a Swedish Fika, coffe break, or supper in a private home will give you a chance to sample some Swedish delicacies, depending on the season and your host’s own preferences in the kitchen, and have a chat about everyday life. You can ask about culture and traditions, find out about local stories and anecdotes or get insider tips on what to see or where to shop. Without question the most authentic way of experiencing the most southern part of Sweden called Skåne.
Magnus is a retired submarine commander and the chef in the family. He loves to cook and for special occasions he brings out the old family recipes inherited from his family who have been living in Skåne for several generations.
Anita is still working, but will retire early 2015. In her work as national coordinator for an EU program she everyday talks to and meets people from a lot of countries.
The family also consists of two flatcoated retrievers - Boxie and Caxie. Both of them love long walking tours in the surroundings - irrespective of the weather.
Our two sons are living abroad, in Spain and US, with their families. During spring and autumn we love to visit them, but during summer we don´t want to leave Österlen.
We are very lucky to be able to buy most of our food from local farmers and shops. There are a lot of farms around our house where we can buy all sorts of vegetables.
We also have a very nice fish shop in Kåseberga and there is a good little shop with local meat nearby.
If you come in the right time of the year we probably also can offer you our own fresh potatoes, asparagus, raspberries.
Österlen is a fantastic place to visit the year round. In the spring when the oilseed rape seeds yellow color is so fantastic to see, in the summer when you have all the outstanding sand beaches, in fall or winter when you after a long walk with the dogs put in a fire in one the fire places and drink glögg or something stronger to warm you up. At Österlen you can find something for almost everyone, lovely walks the year round, museums, golf courses, restaurants, cafés and artists which you often can visit at their homes.
The old former farmhouse, from 1849, that we live in is in constant need of renovating, which keeps Magnus occupied. The house is really too large for us nowadays but after living here for a lot of years we can´t think of moving. Our dining room will easily accommodate up to 8 persons. And if you need a bed for the night we can fix that too.
The train takes 55 min from Malmö to Ystad, where we can pick you up by car. On the way to Peppinge Magnus would love to guide you through Ystad - a very nice old town from the 12th century. Or perhaps we can take a walk up to Ales stenar, Swedish largest ship setting from 600 AD with a fantastic view out over the sea. A clear day you can even see the Danish island Bornholm.
